Okay. So finally I decided that I should update so that I can have more things for myself to see when I grow old.
Last 8 days of relief teaching at Chongfu primary, Northland Primary and Jiemin Primary ( running around) really taught me a lot and yea, a lot of interesting things happened.
I reckon that a lot of u thinks that relief teaching is just go and sit in, give out assignment, wait for time to pass, go home right? Yes. Agree. That was my initial impression when I was doing relief teaching last 2 years ago. Like seriously, I think that I really need to change my point of view now for I am completely wrong. Please change yr perceptions of relief teachers as slackers who are just getting paid $65 for a few mere hours ok. Get it clear. It isn’t as what u are thinking.
The 8 days of relief teaching (till now) really spurred me into teaching kids the correct values and what should be done and what should not be done in class. Shall update myself on what has been going on these few days.
Relief class: P1-6.
Like omg. Kids nowadays changes so much that u really need to have a way to control them! Although some of those childish acts are done previously when I was a kid, I really can understand why teachers can be so angry when the class is noisy, when students are walking about, singing, jumping, skipping or wadeva u call it man.
1 hr of eng, 1 hr of math, 1.5 hrs of Chinese and the list go on is just not enough for u to complete a lesson. U really have to rush for time in class, to teach them well, not sit down and slack. They really have to understand, and u really have to start from the very basic. Like for instance, setting up visualizors, on-ing the computers in class where every class de password is different, going online to the specific教材。Say for Chinese right, u need to go xuele.edu.mall.sg. go to the specific chapters which they stop. Which obviously some teachers dint tell u and u have to ask the students. And read to them together. U need to know where to stop. Where is the difficult word; Explain to them. Justify the meaning, let them form sentences and all those clique stuffs.
U also has to know who is in charge of this, who is in charge of that. So after that, u needs to return them the workbooks, which obviously u have to do some hide and seek to search for it. Say if 1 student do not have it, what are u going to do? If u go to the staffroom and check, wad must u do to the class? Leave the class anot? Decision making comes in here.
So 1st of all, whenever I go into any class for relief, be it P1 OR P6, the very 1st thing I will say is: let set some ground rule. 1: when I am talking, u all don’t talk. 2nd: I do not want to see anyone of u standing up. If u have any question, raise up yr hand and I will go over. 3rd: should we have time, we shall play games later, after u all have finished all yr assignments to be due.
O so yahh. Wad games do I play with? THE WORD SINGAPORE. How to play with this word? Form as many words as possible using this word. This trains their vocabulary, spelling, thinking skills and a lot more. It is really a very effective game which are good for the students, albeit saying about NE(national education). Anw, my P3s (from Jiemin) , can form more than 100 words using this can? Pro siahh. Lol.
So yahh, wad is the “up” part??? (: yayyy, lts the result and labour at the end of the day and each day u return for relief, where every child says MR ONG!!!!! MR ONGGG!!!! And a wave frantically to u. some even come up and hugs u!! (: mr ong!! I miss your games! I miss u! are u teaching us today! Mr ong! Can u teach me today again? Pleaseee!
Yes, I forgot to mention! There are a lot of MPJS in the class! But den, they are really cute! But their MPJ-ness is without any evil intention de! They just wanna catch your attention! Hahahas. So cute. NOT LIKE SOMEONE WHO IS ON HIS AGES ALREADY AND TRYING TO ACT CUTE BY BEING A MPJ. DON THINK I DON KNOW OKAY. I AM WATCHING U, KEEPING TRACK OF U DE K. ACBBC. (: (:
ANW, Wad I really can say that is I really think that it’s the MPJs, THE NOISY ONE, THE MISCHIEFVIOUS ONE, THE CHATTERBOX, THE ONE WHO IS SICK, THE ONE WHO HAS SOME ATTITUDE PROBLEM that leaves the most impression to me. Believe me. Seriously.
O yahh. MPJS. They would really want to help u carry books, saying “ MEEE!! MEEEE MEEEE !!!! MEEEEE !!!”, helping u to clean the white board, helping u sweep floor; wanting to partner with u for recess or wherever they go. so cute right!
The sad thing is that whenever u see children doing that to u, u will expect some “evil” (perhaps envy an more apt word) glances from their teachers. They would be like shhhhhhhhh, den gei gei smile at u. so LOL lo.
Well, things really aren’t smooth as u think it would be.
1)I vividly playing a game when I was young like zooming yr hand over ppl head to act as if yr armpit is over them. The P6 kids are doing that now. And it is the in games for them okay. They also play it with me and I would be like seriously feel that they are dammmmm childish. But den I dint stop them as u know, we were just the complete reflection of them when we are young. HHAHAS.
2) SWALLOING A ONE-DOLLAR Coin. This cuteeeeeee SILLY Indian girl went to swallow a one-dollar coin and I was dammmmmm flabbergasted when I knew about it! She seriously seemed very comfortable with the coin inside her throat and I quickly brought her out of the classroom to the general office. Halfway through, I keep patting her back while she was speaking some alienated words which I simply cant understand( perhaps tamil I reckon) and I finally understood tat she want to vomit. Thanks god, she vomit outside the general office and phew, with the one dollar coin! So lucky lah! Imagine me having to be jailed or wad just because she died of this trival silly thing. Hahahs.
Den I asked her if she was okay, den re assure that she was fine, and ask her to stop playing with coins again or never to swallow it again, after she went on filling me in that she swallowed FOR FUN. LOL LO. NOT FUNNY CAN.
The most funniest thing is that when I go back to the class, the class was like asking wad happened to her all those.. Den some students very cute and raise their hand and blurted out: “ mr ong! I swallowed a beeeeeeee!” (OBVOUOSLY DEE SIAO ONE) I was huh???? LOL!
3) “I do not want to friend u!” and there a P1 student go crying over this! I went over to console her and ask her wad happened. Then she told me the girls sitting beside her don want to friend her, she have no frienddds! Den before I can say anything, she started crying. Guess wad happened after this? LOL, a boy sitting infront of him raise up his hand and say: “MR ONG, I AM HER FRIEND. I GOT FRIEND HER.”
真是哭笑不得can. Seriously.
4) Anger Management Problem- I went on the racial harmony day. I was assigned with 3 teachers ( 1 form teacher and one NIE teacher). So they are supposed to present to the class wad their group has drawn for racial harmony day. If their criteria is fulfilled, they will have a mark. So a dammmmm mischievous group keeeeeep sabotaging other groups by saying crude things. Hence, a student who has Anger Management problem XXXXX, went to PUCHHHHH (PUNCH OK) the leader of the sabotager. The teachers inside was shocked, and quickly pulled them apart. I quicky went to the one who is being punched and started protecting him and console him. O man, wad a nice racial harmony day.
Today, I went to northland and had a student who has Anger Management Problem as well. Actually I seriously think that he is very ke lian. He just came out of the hospital, and had had a lot of scars on his hands.. see le 就心痛.heart really fell for him seeing those scars. So yahh, I tried to induce him into saying wad happen. He tried to cover up with excuses saying it was mosquitoes bites, it was hot water scald, which obviously isn’t.
Actually, he got a counselor and a teacher mentor, he scolded F word to the principal and vice principal, according to the counselor. So today, he was quite peaceful (to me) and yahh, he went mad after that. He brandish the 1 meter ruler and hits the projector! He went running around the corridor, playing and throwing oranges at wall. Chee bye he scolded before, stomping on the duster he performed b4.. SO in the end, he was drag to the mentor and I think was sent home or to the counselor. Yea. Haixx. Actually I am now still very worried about the kid.. heart really fell for him instead of being angry with him. Really. I still believe that there must be something wrong in the house that he refused to share or was forced not to tell. And yah,I was confirmed by the counselor at the end of the day that they ALSO suspect something is going in the house which cause my this handsome small cute boy to go haywire.. how I wish I can help siah. 真得很无奈,什么东西也不能做,束手无策的感觉并非很好,我很想为他做些什么,但其实,我不能,想必也轮不到我。:(
